Downtown SLC Presents and The Gateway are excited to announce a new collaboration, “Last Hurrah”, presented by Comcast NBC Universal. This free event will be open to the public on New Year’s Eve, from 8 PM - midnight. Featuring live music on outdoor stages, as well as indoor games and a 21-and-over speakeasy lounge, Last Hurrah will be Utah’s largest countdown celebration.

"We couldn’t be more excited to host to this huge celebration," says Edie Trott, marketing director at The Gateway. "We couldn't ask for better partners to help create the perfect night and experience for our community to come together to celebrate in the new year in a loud way."

This kick-off for Last Hurrah marks the conclusion of EVE Winterfest—the multi-day festival presented by Downtown Alliance that supplied activities to ring in the new year for nearly a decade. “Downtown is evolving, and what we create is evolving with it,” said Downtown Alliance executive director Jason Mathis. “The Gateway will be a great place to ring in the New Year as a community. Vestar is making really meaningful investments in our downtown, through public art initiatives, supporting events and festivals, and ushering in great, new businesses for Utah.”

Mathis pointed to EVE being born out of a need to draw residents from across the state to downtown during the holiday, but noted a swell of events and opportunities in the urban center that have grown in past years. “Downtown is a hub of activity day in and day out,” Mathis said. “This is a natural progression and show’s our city has grown up, and will continue to do so in creative ways—that’s why Last Hurrah will be such an exciting part of that evolution. This represents the next phase of downtown.”

The Main Stage will be headlined by singer/songwriter Joshua James, with opening acts that include DJ Flash & Flare, Afro-Brazilian drum and fire troupe Samba Fogo, and psychedelic rockers Crook & The Bluff.

Draft beer, wine and hot chocolate will be served throughout the event. One of two indoor spaces, the Speakeasy Lounge, will offer full-strength craft beer, wine, and champagne, featuring Sugar House Distillery spirits and specialty cocktails. The Speakeasy Lounge is open to guests 21 and over. Guests of all ages have an opportunity to warm up in the Game Room, where they can face-off on giant versions of Jenga, checkers and cornhole, and experience an array of interactive art installations.

Last Hurrah is a new event, presented by title sponsor NBC Comcast Universal, and supported by Rocky Mountain Power, Salt Lake City, ZAP, Sartain & Saunders, Sugar House Distillery, Downtown SLC Presents and The Gateway.
