A CURATED CALENDAR FOR THE CURIOUS SLC EXPLORER
See full event listings at The Blocks Arts District

Date Night at UMOCA means a catered dinner and then a guided tour through the current exhibits from executive director of UMOCA, Laura Hurtado. Afterward, curator Jared Steffenson leads a hands-on activity that will (hopefully) produce a take-home piece of artwork.

RuPaul has launched hundreds of careers, but one of her mentees, Monet X Change is our favorite progeny. Monet is whiplash fast with a comeback, fiercely smart, and darkly funny–among many other attributes. See her in a new show Life Be Lifin’ at Rose Wagner at 8pm.

Dancing queen, feel the beat from the tambourine, oh yeah…
MANIA: The ABBA Tribute band has been touring since 1999 and they sell out almost every venue they’ve performed in. If you’re already singing Fernando, this shows for you. The Depot 6:30.

This story has it all: cannibalism, abandoned children, theft, murder are all plotlines in The Brother Grimm’s scarytale, Hansel and Gretel. Utah Opera stages this 1983 masterpiece at Capitol Theatre, multiple performances.

Utahns can’t get enough Halloween. Join the folks at Church and State for a spooky pop up market (free) and the even spookier Nosferatu from 1922 ($8) Ticket comes with snacks and drinks!

Sunday mornings Downtown can be quiet. Of course, that’s true for most cities. But, you know where it gets loud? Temple Square, when the Tabernacle Choir offers free entry to their live broadcast of Music and the Spoken Word at 9:15. Tickets not required. (There is also a weekly rehearsal every Thursday at 7:30, also free and open to the public.) More info.

We’ve been a fan of Post Office Place’s sliders for some time. Our go-to has been either the Japanese fried chicken or the Spam option with miso-aioli. (Don’t knock it till you try it!)

The brilliant–James Beard-nominated–minds in the kitchen have quietly put another option on the menu: a smashed beef patty with pickled red onion, cheese and cabbage. “Oh, a burger.” You might retort. Nay, this is the summit in the sea of sliderdom! And for $6, you should try all three. Enjoy.

We want to feature your fun!
