Even in the middle of this pandemic, Downtown SLC is continuing to experience plenty of new retail activity. This is a good sign that downtown is poised for a strong recovery, but we don’t know when we’ll be ready for that to start. Despite a pattern of lowering coronavirus case counts, many restaurants and retail shops are reporting that they are still suffering from low sales compared to years past.
Now more than ever, our favorites need our business in order to stay afloat. These establishments are implementing new practices to ensure your health and safety. Many restaurants have added more outdoor seating to allow for more distancing. Even if you still don’t feel comfortable going out, there are plenty of curbside pickup and delivery options. No matter how you do it, we hope you will support these new and established downtown businesses!
Recently Opened
Carson Kitchen | 241 West 200 South
Following the successful launch of the first Carson Kitchen location off Fremont Street in Las Vegas six years ago, the concept has expanded to Downtown SLC. The menu offers innovative takes on comfort food, probably best experienced by sharing small plates with the table. Regardless, you may want to finish your meal off with its signature glazed donut bread pudding.
Chettinad House | 169 South Main Street
First reported last month, Chettinad House is now open on Main Street! The Indian joint features an extensive menu of traditional dishes to satisfy your craving. They even offer a breakfast menu, served all day, that you won’t find at every Indian restaurant in the area. Whether you’re new to the area or looking to indulge in the nostalgia of the former Lamb’s Grill spot, you’ll definitely want to try it out.
Good Burger | On Regent Street
If you’ve been on the hunt for a good burger, you may want to try out Good Burger. Located on Regent Street behind Eccles Theater, the joint is known for its delicious patties topped with “good sauce.” If beef isn’t your thing, they also have a selection of chicken sandwiches and even a veggie burger. And the chain is from Idaho, so you know the fries must be good.
Nacho Daddy | 241 West 200 South
Located right next to Carson Kitchen, Nacho Daddy is another new concept out of Las Vegas, and you’ll definitely feel that Vegas influence. The over-the-top menu features indulgent nachos made with filet mignon and lobster, flaming fajitas (literally set on fire with the help of tequila), and massive margaritas. Nacho Daddy is also famous for its scorpion shot, which does include an actual scorpion. Don’t worry, they also feature a dedicated menu with a number of vegan options if that is more your lane.
Vionic Shoes | At City Creek Center
Vionic is committed to offering shoes that offer style along with stability and support. From flip flops to heels, the signature three-zone comfort with ultimate arch support provides easy access to affordable orthotic treatment. This is Vionic’s first store in the western US, providing unique access to some of the most supportive shoes for both women and men.
Vitality Bowls Superfood Café | At City Creek Center
Açaí bowls have come to be a popular treat in Salt Lake City, and there’s a new destination to find them downtown. Vitality Bowls ensures the purest possible products because they don’t add any ingredient fillers, like ice, yogurt, or artificial preservatives. The menu also includes smoothies, fresh juices, salads, and panini, so you’ll be set for any meal of the day.
White Agent Bridal | At The Gateway
White Agent Bridal originally started in Armenia in 2015. The brand has now extended to the US via this new store at The Gateway. You’ll find a selection of designer dresses, including a line of White Agent Private Label dresses, or you can work with them for a custom design. The shop is currently open by appointment only.
Opening Soon
Mortar & Pestle | 152 East 200 South
It looks like construction is just wrapping up on this craft cocktail bar on Edison Street adjacent to the new Curry Up Now. The sister concepts are coming to Downtown SLC by way of California. Mortar & Pestle makes its own syrups, sodas, and tonics in-house for its unique Indian-inspired cocktails.
