Downtown Salt Lake City Banner Advertising Policies and Guidelines

Downtown Alliance is dedicated to building a dynamic and diverse community that is the regional center for culture, commerce and entertainment. Street banners provide a way to create vibrancy downtown and are a great method to advertise your community event.

Downtown Alliance manages the rental, installation, and content of the banners displayed on 826 light poles within the Salt Lake City Central Business Improvement District.

Eligible Participants

Participants eligible to display street banners include community organizations, city and county government, the state of Utah, or governmentally owned educational institutions. Applications for political and for-profit promotional street banners will not be accepted. Street banners may only be installed for the limited purpose of promoting and encouraging community identity, community organizations, or community events. Subject matter and banner content must be approved by Downtown Alliance at least 60 days before the anticipated promotional schedule. Upon Downtown Alliance review and approval, all reservations made under 60 days prior to the installation date will be subject to a rush order fee of $10 per banner. Exceptions may be made to the policy concerning eligible participants and subject matter by Downtown Alliance for events and activities of major civic importance.

Allowable Displays

  • Advertisements or promotions of community organizations;
  • Advertisements or promotions of community events;
  • Advertisements or promotions of activities sponsored by the city, Salt Lake County, the state of Utah, or a governmentally owned educational institution;
  • Advertisements or promotions of community events that are commercially sponsored;
  • Welcome messages, such as those for class reunions, conventions, conferences, athletic tournaments, or local winners of major events;
  • Advertisements or promotions of sales and fundraising events for youth organizations, community organizations, and community service organizations for their program support; or nonpartisan and non candidate voting information.

Available Space

The non-profit rate to install, remove and maintain the banners is $40.00 per banner per month. 

  • $10.00 per banner will be added to any reservations made and approved less than 60 days of install.
  • Early removal fee is $15.00 per banner if run time is less than a full month without prior approval
  • All reservations require a non-refundable deposit of 25% of the total reservation cost. All fees must be paid in full prior to the reservation date and no banners will be installed prior to payment. Deposits will be applied to the total reservation fee.

Cost of designing, producing, printing, and repairing the banners is the responsibility of the event/organization.

For-profit and convention rates will be provided upon request.

Payment

Payment is due upon approval of reservation. Any date extensions made following initial reservation will be invoiced separately. 

Pick-up/Delivery

Participants are asked to have banners printed and ready for pickup at least one week before the display schedule. 

In consideration of other reservations, we will not guarantee that banners will be hung on time if they are not printed and ready for pick-up on time. Contact Eric Crowther at (801) 349-0660 for scheduling.

Storage Fee

Storage arrangements can be made on a case by case basis. If storage is needed, a rental fee of $200 per month will be invoiced.  

Sponsorship/Underwriter Acknowledgements & Standards

Promotional banners may carry a sponsor’s logo and positioning statement. The sponsor logo is limited to the bottom 20% of the banner, and sponsor information/positioning statements up to 6” in height.

Banner Standards

Downtown weather conditions can be hard on street banners. Street banners must be constructed of a material that can withstand the normal and reasonably expected conditions for the period of time they are displayed. Torn or damaged street banners will not be installed and/or will be replaced at the applicant's expense if found to be damaged after being installed. $15.00 per banner will be added for early removal of damaged banners. Additionally, $15.00 per banner will be added for reinstallation. There is no discounted monthly rental rate for reservations due to early removal of damaged banners.

Maintenance and Liability

The Downtown Alliance or its subcontractors are not responsible for damage to the banners while they are being installed, displayed, retrieved, and/or stored. Damaged or dirty banners will not be displayed. Our installation contractor may be contacted to repair and/or clean banners if needed; all costs for banner repairs are the responsibility of the lessee. Banners will be held for pick-up for one week after the final date of the display contract. After that time, a storage charge of $200 per month will be imposed. Nonpayment for the storage fee will result in disposal of the banners.

For safety reasons, banners cannot be installed or removed during inclement or hazardous weather conditions.
