A CURATED CALENDAR FOR THE CURIOUS SLC EXPLORER
See full event listings at The Blocks Arts District
Merry Christmas! Take a moment to show your love to your community today! Consider giving to the Catholic Community Services’ St. Vincent de Paul’s Dining Hall, the Fourth Street Clinic, YWCA Utah’s Women in Jeopardy Emergency Shelter. Consider donating to our cultural treasures we take for granted like our amazing arts organizations, or even our very own Downtown Farmer’s Market’s Market Kids Club that teaches youth about the importance of eating healthy! We promise they’ll thank you and not ask for the gift receipt.
Are the gifts open, house a mess, and you’re just wanting a moment of quiet? Escape to the world of Oz, scurry to the Serengeti, or sail to the South Pacific… Go see a movie at The Gateway Megaplex where Wicked, Moana 2, and Mufasa: The Lion King are playing.
Today also marks the first night of Chanukah. You can join the congregants of Chabad Lubavitch of Utah and kindle the menorah tonight at Abravanel Hall Plaza, 7pm, free.
Squeeze a little more magic into the holidays with A Magical Cirque Christmas at the Eccles for just two shows today. We’re told the acrobatics steal the show and tickets start at just $25!
Hot take: Canada’s #1 export is their comedians: Mike Myers, Seth Rogan, Jim Carrey, Catherine O’Hara, the great Martin Short. See another proud daughter of Canada, hot off filming her 7th comedy special, Caroline Rhea at Wiseguys, multiple shows.
Opiuo’s parents provided land in rural New Zealand for large-scale music festivals, and that’s the wild, loud, creative environment he grew up in. So, prepare for a masterful concert full of auditory and visual waves and EDM elevated with soul, funk, and psychedelia. Soundwell, 8pm.
Did you know hockey players lose up to 10 pounds per game? (And that is without any fighting.) See the action as Utah Hockey Club competes against the Colorado Avalanche. (Delta Center, 7:30pm)
Ready to smash and crash the holidays? Our buddy Godzilla is here to join you. See Godzilla, The Return of Godzilla, and Godzilla Destroy All Monsters at the Salt Lake Film Society’s Broadway Theater for GODZILLA-THON! 7PM
Bad news: our beloved Utah Jazz aren’t so hot right now. Good news? Tickets are cheap! So, don’t be a fair weather fan! Grab a ticket for as low as $15 and root for the home team.
For more than 50 years, Siegfried’s has been a Downtown gem. The German deli has a big personality that can be a bit intimidating if you’re not familiar with their counter-ordering process. Don’t be daunted! This is a family-friendly restaurant with almost all meals under $10. Our go-to is either the bratwurst sandwich with sauerkraut or the wiener schnitzel, and don’t forget the red cabbage.
Your order is made in front of you in seconds and then you can peruse the rest of the shop with European delights!
We want to feature your fun!
